What "Made in USA" Actually Means for Taiga
Taiga Coolers has manufactured every cooler it has ever sold in the United the USA from imported components." Not "designed in Texas, made overseas." Every cooler— shell, insulation, hardware — comes out of Texas.
The company was founded in 2014 by Wayne Ostrander and John Hohenshelt in Adquartered today in Mesquite, Texas. Every unit is assembled within 200 miles of thatbuilding. Raw materials are sourced within 1,000 miles. The supply chain is local by design, not as a marketing claim.
Taiga is veteran-owned. Wayne Ostrander served before building this compa Texas. That's the context in which "made in USA" carries meaning here — it's not abranding exercise, it's how the company was built.
Why the Manufacturing Method Matters More Than the Label
Most premium coolers are rotomolded — a process where plastic pellets are pslowly, and rotated as they cool. It's a good process that produces strong coolers. It's also slow, limits precision, and makes consistent branding difficult.
Taiga uses injection molding — the same manufacturing process used in medicd aerospace components. Plastic is injected under pressure into a precision mold, producing a denser, more consistent shell with tighter tolerances than rotomolding achieves. The shell is 3/16" ASTM-tested polypropylene. The lid runs approximately 3" of insulation. Ice retention: 45–170 hours depending on model, per third-party testing at The Cooler Zone.
The injection molding process is also why Taiga's logo customization is patented. The precision of injection molding means logos come out clean on every single unit — no variation between unit 1 and unit 500. That precision is only achievable because of how the cooler is ma
Taiga's manufacturing advantage is measurable. Injection molding produces a denser, more precise shell than rotomolding — and that precision is what enables the patented logo process. Rotomolded brands cannot write this story honestly. Taiga can.
What This Means for Corporate Procurement
Procurement teams with domestic sourcing requirements need documentation, n can provide it. Every cooler is manufactured and assembled within 200 miles ofMesquite, Texas. Materials are sourced within 1,000 miles. This is a verifiable supply chain, not a label applied post-import.
For companies with "buy American" gift policies, veteran-owned supplier traat includes domestic sourcing — Taiga covers all three boxes simultaneously. Thatcombination is rare in branded merchandise and rarer still in a product category (premium coolers) that's dominated by offshore manufacturing.
Custom orders for corporate gifting start at 12 units (flat-front logo, 5–7nd scale to fully custom-molded programs at 50 units with approximately a 6-week leadtime. American-made corporate gifts that you can talk about in a company newsletter — and back up with a supply chain document if procurement asks for it.
The Founding Story — and Why It's Relevant
Wayne Ostrander and John Hohenshelt started Taiga in 2014 because they coulat held up the way they needed it to. Ostrander is a working rancher. Hohenshelt is anavid hunter and fisherman. They didn't build a cooler company because they saw a market opportunity — they built it because they needed the product and it didn't exist at the quality level they wanted.
That founding story matters for one reason: these coolers were designed by people who use them daily, not by product managers optimizing for retail margins. The 55Qt and 88Qt hold ice for 70–170 hours because Ostrander and Hohenshelt needed them to hold ice across multi-day in Texas summer heat — not because those numbers look good on a spec sheet.
By their ninth year in business, Taiga had reported 100% growth. The company has served as the official cooler of the Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit. It has licensed partnerships with Mossy Oak and Case IH. None of those relationships happen if the cooler doesn't actually wor
